Debbie Harry from Blondie is the next 80’s pop art portrait in My Alters series. I chose to paint Debbie because as stated in My last blog, I have many nicknames, good and bad. The bad names obviously come from all the jelly haters who’ve bullied and slandered Me during My life. You can always gauge somebody’s level of intelligence by the garbage that comes out of their mouth and those who choose to attack Me are merely projecting their own insecurities, self-loathing and feelings of unworthiness onto Me. Time to speed dial that shrink kiddos!
“Blondie” is a name My boss and co-workers used to call Me when I worked as a signwriter in the art department at IKEA. Don’t you just love that bleached hair? Back in the day I used to look like a cross between Pamela Anderson, Marilyn Monroe and Anna Nicole Smith. I’ve already painted Marilyn Monroe so I might have to fit in Pamela and Anna somewhere.
I experienced a succession of uncanny synchronicities while looking through Blondie’s track listings the other day. “Rapture“, “Atomic”, “Maria” … which is a song taken from their 1999 album No Exit. My mother was going to name me “Maria” when I was born and 1999 is the year I moved to America.

The colours of this painting have been bugging Me for a while so it’s taken Me two years to decide to do a repaint.
