I stepped outside today and immediately started coughing. If you don’t already know, Australia is in the middle of a horrific heatwave and fires are raging across the country. The photo above was taken at 4:45pm today and is what the sky in Sydney currently looks like. The sun is burning bright orange and the air is thick and humid. The temperature is averaging 42C (nearly 107F) and above. Both My car and the floor inside My house are covered in ash, the plants in My garden have all dried up, and I am having a very difficult time trying to paint. My “Alters” pop art portraits series will be memorable though because it is being painted while Australia is burning.
Annie Lennox was created with sweat and tears, literally. Sweat from the scorching heat and tears because I am painting these portraits while listening to music from the 80s and crying because I’m remembering the time when things were so much better. Women (and men) weren’t toxic plastic zombies, the music was awesome, people were less stressed because they didn’t have their face glued to a cell phone 24/7, movies didn’t suck, we had Atari, wore fluorescent clothing and most importantly, had hair that could poke somebody’s eyes out when walking past them.
Who’s That Girl with the cool hair?
